Andrew Okaikoi is a grassroots advocate by character and passion, committed to entrepreneurship and human rights advocacy. His result-oriented and proactive nature drives his ultimate ambition: to be remembered for his impactful contributions.
He received his early education at Akosombo International School and Accra Academy School. He then graduated from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and History. Furthering his education, Andrew earned a Master’s Degree in International Human Rights and Administrative Law from the University of Ghana, Legon.
Andrew’s pursuit of excellence continued with advanced studies in Integrating Finance at the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and Organizing Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Navigating the complex and ever-evolving world of entrepreneurship over the past four decades, Andrew has dedicated his life to building inclusive communities and empowering individuals with his entrepreneurial insight and compassion. His journey into disability advocacy, entrepreneurship and public policy is profoundly inspired by personal experiences of determination, dedication and resilience.
A pivotal childhood experience shaped Andrew’s adult life, fueling his passion for aiding those in need and the underprivileged in society. He subscribes to a philosophy that despite differences in politics, religion and worldviews, all humans desire adequate food and shelter, honest and decent work, fairness and justice, freedom and human dignity.
Optimistic about the future of disability advocacy in Ghana and globally, Andrew’s mission is to help individuals realize their full potential, harnessing bravery, goodwill and wisdom. His life’s work, reflected in the foundation of the Centre for Disability, Entrepreneurship, and Public Policy (CDEPP), stands as a testament to years of deep experiences, persistent efforts and unwavering faith in hard work and excellence.
As the first Board Chairman of the National Disability Council, established in 2009, Andrew played a crucial role in getting Ghana to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. He was also instrumental in drafting the Legislative Instrument for ACT 715 during his tenure.
Andrew has mentored numerous youths who have assumed leadership roles across various levels in the country and continues to actively mentor future leaders. He is currently pursuing doctoral studies at New York University’s Steinhardt School.
